“A network of trusted connections with whom an individual interacts (and learns from) on a regular basis.”

Jane Hart

After the internet started in 1960, the network was getting known by more people. Until now, I believe many of us can’t live without it. We can use the internet to do many things, for instance, socializing, working, studying. Those elements combined and become what we call the personal learning environment (PLE). However, our topic for today is PLN which stands for private learning network. The private learning network is part of PLE when people like us study in the same class and discuss the same project. It is because of the Internet that our lives have become so convenient. On the contrary, the network is not always “stand” on the good side.

What does it mean to network using social media?

Firstly, we need to know the difference between social media and networks. The network is a platform for people to access, and social media is like a network medium. Through social media, people connect in one place to chat, and this is one of the good sides of social media. It may be an exaggeration to say so, but the world is gradually becoming a global village because of social networks. Therefore, I think using social media has given meaning to the existence of networks. The original network may only be the difference between 0 and 1, but social media intervention has created infinite possibilities for the Internet.

How are we motivated to participate in networked publics?

After last year’s and even extended to this year’s epidemic, I gradually discovered the usefulness of social media. At one time, I always thought that social media was mostly just for entertainment, but the frequent use of zoom and the school’s updated maintenance of the official website has made it more convenient for students to use. Hence, if social media could help us focus on self-improvement, I would like to build a well-networked environment.

What are the risks & rewards of public communications?

Public communication brings a lot of convenience to people because the network is a platform that allows all kinds of people to access it. Everything has two sides. We can’t just concentrate on the good side that the network brings us. Free speaking in public communications space becomes complicated. Also, because it’s an online environment, everyone can make statements without showing their faces. Some people will say something they are afraid to communicate in real life. Simultaneously, a bad network environment has given rise to the emergence of online violence, which has a significant impact on people’s spirits.

Digital Identity

Digital identity is our identity in a digital way which means our information is saved in different networks. I think digital identity is a macro topic to discuss because this can be used widely in many fields. For instance, our information can be saved in a government network; We can save our data in a government network so that when we get married or commit a crime, we can quickly find it in an information network, which is convenient for the government to manage. On the other hand, the network is not as safe as we keep our information by ourselves. If anyone hacked the government service network, we could not protect our very dangerous privacy.

  • How do personal versus professional approaches to digital identity affect social media use?

In connection with the above, I think it is essential to link social media with digital identity. In response to the increasing amount of online violence, real-name authentication has to be a prerequisite for using social media. Furthermore, if professional approaches to digital identity can be used in social media, I think the future trend of economics will become cashless. I used to forgive to bring cash so that I would love to use a digital wallet.

Conclusion

Systematically speaking, the network has given people a lot of advantages, but at the same time, it has created adverse effects. The negative effects network brings us should not be blamed, but we need to adapt to the new technologies.
