blog#8 PLN & Education

Explore the video provided and reflect on the themes of a PLN in a professional capacity.

In the video, Brad Baker discussed his experience that he had studied indigenous programs overseas, and he is currently working in anti-racism. He also noticed about the PLN he want to build is a healthy community. I like what he talked about how PLN brings the positive side to indigenous people. PLN is allowed indigenous voice regarding the true reconciliation to public and it’s from an authentic source. I think this is why PLN is important to us because it’s not only sharing our ordinary life but also sharing untold truth to someone who needs to know.

Which social media platforms are beneficial in education?

From my personal experience, I think the most beneficial social media platform in education is Khan academy. The first time I used was in grade 10. I remembered I was used this to learn how to solve some pre-calculus questions. Until now, I still using this social media to improve my understanding of economics. The reason why I choose this social media is, firstly, it contains a large range of disciplines. This is very convenient for those of us who are lazy and looking for what we need to catch up on. Secondly, the content taught by the teacher is straightforward to understand.

Consider the equality that exists when all have the same platform to engage community dialogues.

When we seat at an equal level, then we know how to work efficiently. An equal platform shows that everyone has the right to demonstrate their opinion and people knowing how to respect others’ opinions is also an essential quality for equality. In  Developing Personal Learning Networks for Open and Social Learning, the theory of the open movement can be answered this question.

The open movement is an informal, worldwide phenomenon characterized by the tendency of individuals and groups to work, collaborate and publish in ways that favour accessibility, sharing, transparency and interoperability.

If we see EDCI 338 as a PLN platform, I could feel the great respect that each student had for the writings of others.
